Touch base: To talk briefly to someone
Usage:
I’ll touch base with him later today to tell him about the meeting.
When I got there I tried to touch base with Michelle to see if the fridge was ever located. I did not hear back from her so not sure if she got my message.
I need to touch base with you on several matters.
Let’s touch base next week.
It’s more than likely your referee will be too busy to think about such things so you need to call or email every six months just to “touch base“.
